The Daughters of
the Sacred Heart, East Africa Region, is proud to turn 25. To mark the
occasion two celebrations were organised. The first one in the month
of November 2005 in Mpeketoni, Malindi Diocese and the Second one in
Ruiru, Nairobi Archdiocese. For both the celebrations we were honoured
to have our Superior General Sr. Catherine Seychell present with us.
In song and dance, cries of joy and
exclamations t he Christians and
the members of the Congregation gave thanks to God for His loving
kindness and faithfulness for granting us these 25 years of growth.
During the celebration in Mpeketoni, the Christians fondly remembered
how our pioneer Missionary Sisters brought the Good news to the people
of the area. Through a symbolic Bible procession they witnessed to the
fact that the presence of the Sisters and their work ha d
positively influenced their lives and faith. Thus, 6th of November
2005 will go down in history as a day to be cherished.
Then came the celebration at Ruiru on 3rd of November 2005. The
highlight of the day was the presence of our esteemed visitors.
Together with the Superior General we were privileged to have other
members of our Congregation who had an important role in founding and
establishing the Region. The then Superior General w ho
founded the Kenya Mission Sr. Ermelina Mifsud, The Provincial Superior
of Malta Sr. Aurelia Vella and the Provincial Superior of India Sr.
Stephania D'souza both of whom representing the contribution of the
Provinces to the Region, Sr. Pauline Farrugia the Pioneer Missionary
and Sr. Generosa Parnis who was also a missionary in the Region. Thus
both old and new, past and present mingled together as we gazed into a
new future with hope and confidence. Watching over us was the Founderss
in whose charism we share and whose life we strive to emulate as we
journey into the future.
Thus the celebrations gave us a new impetus and direction as we turn
to gold. May its memory
ever
s pur
us onto action as we live and minister in today's world
